The DCCS_CICS begins its month of research with seminars and workshops open to the audience

On January 2, 2019, the Research Center for Social Complexity (CICS, as its Spanish acronym), of the Faculty of Government of the Universidad del Desarrollo, and its Doctorate in Social Complexity Sciences (DCCS, as its Spanish acronym), begin the month of the research, which is celebrated every year by having numerous activities open to the audience.

On this occasion, the scientific grid of the activities of the “Research Camp”, will feature the presence of important national and international researchers:

  • Wednesday, January 2, 4:00 p.m to 5:30 p.m: Seminar “Networks and Space Econometrics with R”, dictated by George Vega Yon. The speaker is a PhD student in Biostatistics of the University of Southern California, Master of Science of the Technological Institute of California (Caltech) and Master of Public Policies of the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez.
  • Monday, January 7, 11.00 a.m to 1.00 p.m: Seminar “Advances and projections of computational social sciences”, with PhD Noshir Contractor. The speaker is PhD. in Philosophy, Master of Arts in Communications from the University of Southern California and Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
  • Tuesday January 8, 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Seminar “Co-evolution of a multilevel network. Analysis of a national scientific discipline using a Stochastic Actor-oriented Model “, with Alejandro Espinosa-Rada. Alejandro holds a PhD in Sociology and a member of the Mitchell Center for Social Network Analysis of the U. of Manchester and Master of Sociology of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
  • Wednesday 9, Thursday 10 and Friday 11 January, 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.: Workshop “A brief course in network science”, by PhD Janos Kertész. Hungarian Physicist, Director of the Physics Institute of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Budapest, Hungary. Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Given that the Doctorate in Social Complexity Sciences is in the applying process for 2019 (from December 1 to March 22), on Tuesday, January 8, an OPEN-HOUSE will be held starting at 6:00 pm, where Applicants and interested parties can learn about the activities of the Center and Doctorate, as well as share directly with researchers and current students.

The activities of the Research Camp will be carried out in Urban Station, a co-working space, which has training rooms and presentations. The seminars will be held in two of its offices, located in General del Canto 182 and Av. Eliodoro Yañez 869, both in the Providencia district and close to metro stations.
